The event is hosted by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship (Rice Alliance), a strategic coalition of Rice University schools (the Brown School of Engineering, the Jones Graduate School of Management and the Wiess School of Natural Science) and is the largest Information Technology and Web venture capital forum in the Southwest. A serial entrepreneur and Rice MBA graduate, Elfman strongly believes in supporting future business owners. He has served as a volunteer judge for the Rice University Business Plan Competition, a global intercollegiate business plan competition, for eight years and has been invited multiple times to discuss his experiences at other Rice Alliance events. In the last 25 years, he has started four companies and has served as an entrepreneur in residence for the Houston Technology Center (HTC), a business accelerator for Houston-based emerging technology companies.


Under his 10+ years of leadership at DataCert as the CEO, president and chairman of the board, he founded grew the start-up to a mature legal spend management software company with more than $28 million in revenue and 25% of the Fortune 500 as customers. DataCert was also one of the fastest-growing technology companies in North America and had three consecutive listings on the Inc. 500.
