The Evolution of Matter and Legal Spend Management

Onit has spent decades studying what’s worked for other legal corporate legal departments to develop enterprise legal management (ELM) solutions that are flexible and easy-to-use. In our eBook, “Matter and Spend Are Just the Beginning: A Guide to the Enterprise Legal Management Paradigm Shift” we outline the evolution of these solutions.

Today, ELM systems are in use among 20% of legal departments and that number is expected to rise to 50% by 2020 according to Gartner. As the pace of business increases, legal departments find themselves required to provide a wider range of services with less resources and time. At the same time, data breaches have become more common and the risks associated with them have gone up a great deal.

These and other trends conspire to create an environment where robust ELM solutions are required. But do the big players in the field offer solutions that really respond to those needs?

Today, companies require in-house counsel to accomplish much of what outside counsel was entrusted with in the past. In decades past, a semiannual process may have been sufficient for the small internal legal staff with a focused set of responsibilities. 

As internal teams get bigger and the scope of work grows, old processes tracked on Excel spreadsheets or rudimentary databases no longer fulfill the team’s needs. On top of falling short on tracking and data storage, these solutions either do not include process enhancements that are slowly becoming standard or will require a significant ongoing development investiture that a company may not be able to afford to maintain.

We’ve got another win under our belts! What a great way to head into this busy fall season. Onit is proud to rank #2 on the Houston Business Journal (HBJ) Houston Fast Tech list. Like the Houston Fast 100 List, companies must meet the following criteria to qualify:

  • be headquartered in the Houston area
  • be at least five years old at the close of FY 2015
  • be privately owned and have earned at least $1 million in revenue for the most recent fiscal year

Additionally, companies on the Fast Tech List must be primarily engaged in producing and/or delivering technology products and services.

We recently let our blog readers know that Onit was nominated for the Fast 100 List. Annually, the Houston Business Journal (HBJ) recognizes the fastest-growing Houston-based private companies. 

As excited as we were for the nomination, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that Onit ranked #8 on The Fast 100 list! It’s truly an honor to rank so high on the list and to be named a 2016 Enterprise Champion. We are a Houston company at our core and it is extra special to be recognized as a leader of the city’s enterprise software market. 

In honor of this recognition, the Onit team attended the Fast 100 Awards in Houston, TX. We had a great time getting to know the other nominees and winners. 

Onit CEO, Eric M. Elfman (pictured on the right) was also featured in an article on the HBJ website. The piece detailed the creative businessman’s years of experience in the Houston technology space. We’re excited to announce that Onit is a Fast 100 finalist! 

The Houston Business Journal (HBJ) annually recognizes the fastest-growing Houston-based private companies. The Fast 100 list ranks companies on by their two-year revenue growth. 

To qualify, all companies on the list had to meet the following criteria:

  • Be for-profit and privately held
  • Must have closed five full fiscal years by Dec. 31, 2015
  • Company is headquartered in the Houston area
  • Earned at least $1 million in revenue for fiscal year 2015
